Character Guidelines

As we are going to be experimenting with a Troupe style of gameplay, most of the players will be constructing multiple characters and switching back and forth periodically. This gives us freedom as a group to change the focus of the party from time to time and better handle character-driven conflict. I fully expect there to be some drama between characters, but with this method we can let that flower (or fester) and have some genuine character development, instead of stifling it in the interests of not splitting the party. Plus we will be able to adapt if one or more players don't show up (or if extra players DO show up).

So to begin our campaign, we are looking at having at least four players, each with 1-3 characters to start with.

The characters should be one of the basic class templates found in DF-1 Adventurers:

  1. Barbarian
  2. Bard
  3. Cleric
  4. Druid
  5. Holy Warrior
  6. Knight
  7. Martial Artist
  8. Scout
  9. Swashbuckler
  10. Thief
  11. Wizard

...and may include a racial template chosen from either the "Civilized" or "Barbaric" lists provided below. Beyond this, the character should follow the class template completely with no deviation beyond what choices are provided in the write-up.

Civilized Races
  • Dwarf
  • High Elf
  • Mountain Elf
  • Sea Elf
  • Winged Elf
  • Wood Elf
  • Gnome
  • Celestial
  • Infused (Any)
  • Halfling
  • Dragon Blooded

Barbaric Races

  • Coleopteran
  • Corpse-Eater
  • Dark One
  • Half-Orc
  • Infernal
  • Elder Spawn
  • Half-Ogre
  • Lizard Man
  • Wildman

Monstrous Races

  • Gargoyle
  • Goblin
  • Hobgoblin
  • Orc
  • Minotaur
  • Ogre
  • Troll

For the future, we will open up access to the more advanced class templates given in later DF supplements as well as the possibility of having a monstrous race "anti-party" working to undo all the good the regular characters have been doing.

That should be enough for all, next I will begin providing some broad setting information so players can have a better idea of how to fix their characters in the world.
